What is the boat like?
The Fling Charters boat is a 100ft aluminum crew boat that fits 28 passengers, three trip leaders, and a six member crew. Bunks are provided with sheets and pillows. There are four bunks in each room. The boat features a TV with DVD player for entertainment, two exit ladders, a swim platform, and a large sundeck. Meals and snacks are provided from 6am until midnight. Chefs are happy to accommodate restricted diets, but you are not allowed to bring your own food or drinks on board.
What is the diving like?
Diving in the Flower gardens is awesome. The top of the reef sits at 60 feet and slopes down from there. The first dive of each day is limited to 130 feet and all subsequent dives are limited to 100 feet. Divers have the chance to dive five times on Saturday, including one night dive, and two dives on Sunday. Dive start times are decided by the crew, but the dive plan is completely up to you and your buddy. Dives are not led by dive masters, but if International Scuba has a trip leader going, they will be happy to lead the group around. From January though April, you can expect to see schools of migrating hammerheads. From May to August you can hope to see whale sharks. August to December is the coral spawning with a chance.of manta rays.
Divers need blue water experience and their Advanced Open Water certification before booking this trip. Conditions can be challenging and therefore aren’t conducive to a novice diver.
What should I bring?
Each diver will need their diver certification card and log book. If you will be diving nitrox, you must have your nitrox certification card. If you plan on doing the night dive, you must bring a primary and backup light as well as a tank marker. You will also need a complete set of equipment (mask, fins, snorkel, BCD, regulator, dive computer, weights, wetsuit, etc). It is mandatory to have a marker buoy. Compasses and whistles are recommended. Aluminum 80 tanks are available on board for air or nitrox, but you may bring your own tanks if you choose. Don’t forget your save-a-dive kit; the boat does not have a repair room or spare gear. Space in the cabins is limited so don’t pack too much and put it in a soft bag that can easily collapse. Bring any necessary prescription or sea sickness prevention medication. Don’t forget a towel!
DON’T FORGET TO TIP YOUR CREW!
How do I sign up and pay?
All you need to do is give Gary at Scuba Steve's Dive Shop a call (903-216-1811). Saturday/Sunday trips are $585. Nitrox is $65. We will take down your credit card information and charge you on the day of the trip. Occasionally the trips will be cancelled due to weather or lack of divers so we wait until we have confirmation that the trip is going be-fore we charge you. If you are looking for a longer trip we can help get you set up.
There is a strict 30 day cancellation policy. This means that if you cancel with less than 30 days notice, you will still be charged for the trip unless you can find another diver to take your spot.
